Historical and Cultural Background
Lingnan Culture is a unique culture that formed gradually on the territory of Southern China during Qing and Ming dynasties (14th-20th centuries).
In the beginning of the 20th century, in search of a better life, thousands of locals from Southern China migrated to the countries of the South-East Asia spreading the Lingnan culture around this region and forming a new cultural phenomenon known as “Nanyang Culture”.
In the period from the Opium Wars to the beginning of the World War I, more than 10 million people of Guangdong migrated to South-East Asia, but didn’t lose connection with their native land. Such close and frequent connections enriched traditional Guangdong culture with new elements from the South-East, as well as had a considerable impact on the development and modernization not only of Guangdong but also of entire China. But this process was bilateral as the Cantonese also made an undeniable contribution to the development of Nanyang..
The core of Cantonese culture is "tolerance, openness, innovation and dedication", the principals that later found their reflection in Nanyang culture. Guangdong originated a number of prominent people that played an important role in the history of their time, such as Yap Ah Loy, the third Kapitan China of Kuala Lumpur, that rebuilt Kuala Lumpur, or King Taksin The Great the King of Thailand, etc.
Nansha Stone Inn is a unique place where the present meets with the past, the place that will take you back to the turn of the century, your “home away from home” that provides you with a comfortable accommodation and unique cultural experience. Hotel’s original design and vintage furniture allow you to get the feeling of the authentic Lingnan home. It is also a true waterfront living that unleashes you and your guests from the busy & hectic city life that we all face.
